According to Eish Media, a police officer has been arrested for the illegal possession of abalone and crayfish near Hermanus in the Western Cape.

The officer and his wife were arrested yesterday afternoon when authorities raided their house in Fisherhaven after receiving information that abalone was being stored there. The estimated street value of the seized perlemoen has been put at more than R1 million. During the arrests, a boat and vehicle were also confiscated and handed in as exhibits.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said that the abalone has since been handed in to the Department of Fisheries and Forestry.
